5 iPhone Apps to Install Right Out of the Box

With over 300,000 apps for the iPhone, one of the biggest challenges that many companies are trying to overcome, is discovery. This is a challenge for the iPhone user who is overwhelmed by the vast selection of apps, but it is also becoming a serious problem for the developer who spends time and money developing an app, that more often than not, ends up falling into the black hole of the App Store.

The New War of Mobile: Photo Sharing Apps

We are approaching the end of 2010 and the analysts have a large number of predictions about what trends we should expect to see in 2011. Buzz words like Twitter, social, location, mobile payments, and many more are tweeted hundreds of times a minute. However, it seems that a new trend has come out of nowhere and begun to make a lot of noise.

The Jabra Halo is Some Bleeding Edge Bluetooth Technology

Let me tell you a little story. As you probably know, I recently replaced my BlackBerry Bold with an iPhone 4. As soon as I got my new shiny iPhone, I wanted to test its Bluetooth capabilities among many other things. I plugged in my Jabra JX10, an ear piece I got for my birthday three years ago. Unfortunately, it would not charge. Now, the headset was not under warranty and I had not used in over a year so the fact that it would not charge did not completely surprise me. Despite that fact, I thought I would reach out to Jabra on Twitter and see if there was anything they can do.

How To Get Your Mobile App Noticed and Downloaded

By now, you have most probably heard the ridiculous number of mobile applications available on the various platforms. Apple is leading the way with its 300,000 iPhone apps in the App Store and Google is catching up fast with 100,000 Android apps in the Android Market. Overall, as far as the consumer is concerned, this trend is a positive one. The more selection, the lower the prices, and the higher the standards for mobile apps.

Apple is Crushing it and Jobs Is Loving it

At a tech event I was at yesterday, one of the many conversations you heard echoing through the hall was the old Android vs. iPhone debate. I have to admit I took part in many of these conversations mainly on the side of tablets and less in regard to smartphones. I already wrote about why one would prefer a Galaxy Tab (Android tablet) over an iPad, and I am personally looking forward to getting my hands on the Galaxy Tab so I can do a real side by side comparison.

By: Hillel Fuld

Windows Phone 7, the latest Microsoft attempt at a mobile platform was released today. I wrote down some of my thoughts prior to the launch here and my initial impressions of the operating system here.

Whether Windows Phone 7 will become a success or not is yet to be seen but with 9 devices, some with extremely impressive specs, the Windows Phone 7 launch managed to impressive even the most skeptical geeks among us.

Putting aside all the geek talk, anyone can appreciate a good commercial and Microsoft nailed it with their new Windows Phone ad. Take a look and let me know what you think in the comments. That is, what you think of the ad and/or the platform.

Update: Some people on Twitter are claiming Microsoft stole the concept from the below video that has been circulating the Web for some time now. What do you think?

Exclusive: Walt Mossberg on iPhone, Android, 4G, and RIM

There are only a few people who I can honestly say inspired me to write this blog and take an interest in the world of technology. Walt Mossberg, the technology correspondent for The Wall Street Journal, is the head of the pack. He has been covering tech since before I even knew what a computer was and he is widely regarded as the father of the tech industry. Watching him laugh and joke with Steve Jobs in Apple’s keynotes was impressive enough, but his exclusive and informative reviews never cease to capture and amaze his wide audience.

A Secret Twitter Feature and The New Dell Streak Tablet

Here I was, thinking I knew everything there was to know about Twitter (follow me here), and a short private conversation I had yesterday changes it all. Let me back up a little. It is no secret that I am a big sucker for new shiny mobile devices, so when Dell announced that they are entering the new tablet market, I was of course very excited. All the tech sites were reporting that Dell was releasing their 5 inch mobile phone/tablet device dubbed the Dell Streak and that it would be available in the US unlocked for $500.
